June 16-17 2007 - MAWA
AKC Lure Coursing Trial, Cartersville, GA
 On
June 16 Reign earned the second and final qualifying score
for his Junior Courser title in the morning JC Test. In the
afternoon trial, there were 9 Pharaoh Hounds competing in
Open Stakes. Reign placed 2nd earning his first Senior
Courser leg and 3 points towards his Field Champion .
On Sunday, Reign placed 3rd out of 6 Pharaoh Hounds to earn
his second Senior Courser leg and 2 more points towards his
Field Champion.
 All
impressive runs for a green 15 month old boy and his second
time on an AKC coursing field against experienced coursers.
Plus Reign was the official cert-dog for a
 newbie
beezer bitch for an ASFA in the last run of the day. Our boy
did the XO's proud! Nice comments from judges, officials and
other breed handlers. It’s good to be good.
Saturday it was 95 on the field - Sunday topped at 105.
Reign plopped himself, fully dressed, froggy style into a
kiddie wading pool, sighed, and laid his head on the side of
the pool. He soaked as long as he wanted. The officials used
industrial sized garden-type sprayers at the line to wet
them down before and after runs. Nary a dog or handler
objected.
The PH group provided shade tents and battery operated fans
for our runners. The dogs were constantly cooled with water
splashes and home-made frosty paws. One owner brought pedio-lyte
slush with ground meat to replenish and refresh the dogs.
They also nibbled on ice cubes and chilled melon pieces thru
out the day. They fared better than the handlers!
Reign appears no worse for the wear. He didn’t want to stop
even as he was shredding the bunny at the finish. While a
very easy catch, Reign leaves the field reluctantly, barking,
spinning, protesting every step.
